Here we go again, 100,000 muslims celebrate EID 2019 in Birmingham, Small Heath Park.
After 6 consectutive years we’ve got this down to a fine art. We’ve negotiated an empty marquee with the organisers and they let us have access 1 or 2 days before EID. This is difficult to nail down as nobody knows the exact date of EID until the night before.
All 20 arches are built with the Aeropole system. Once we get access we begin connecting all the poles – 6 poles per arch so 120 poles are used. Next we attach pins to base plates – 40 base plates takes longer than you think.
Once the hardware is all assembled we begin on the software…. the balloons. It’s approximatly 250 balloons per arch so 5000 are inflated…. this usually takes 4 of us from 10.30am to 3pm.
Now we wait to get the exact date of EID confirmed. Once we know the date we return to Small Heath park at around 3am and begin moving the base plates and then slotting in the arches. It’s possible a few balloons may have deflated so we repair as we install.
Usually we’re finished for 6am – a quick photo and then we return at 5.30pm to dismantle whatever left.
