Paypal removed from Admin
The race was built in 2008. I didn’t want to get involved with holding funds or sending payments so I added Paypal to the admin area. The idea was to add your own PayPal account and take payments directly. This ran OK for 12 years until lockdown when more organisations wanted to use the race. Not everybody had a PayPal account and although PayPal allows card payments people buying the balloons saw the PayPal logo and thought they couldn’t pay.
Other PayPal issues:
- Postage being added to the balloon costs – something out of my control but a setting somewhere deep in a clients Paypal settings.
- charging 30p per transaction +3% – so 39p for a £3 sale.
- Inactive balloon after a successful payment. This proved impossible to fix as the user leaves our website and pays over at Paypal and is then sent back to the Balloon Race. On some occasions Paypal couldn’t send the paid token (or my software couldn’t see it) and so a paid balloon was left inactive.
- The developers couldn’t build the shopping cart added in 2023 with PayPal active.
As always, thanks for trying something different, I’ll do my best to answer any questions, drop me an email: david@balloon.co.uk
